Missed my big chance to do an April Fool’s day prank. Some say everyday is April Fool’s day for me. Not sure what they mean and I’m positive I don’t want to.

Tomorrow is the Great Cooper Bridge Run here in Charleston. 5,000 of the world’s best marathoner’s will run. Another 10,000 will start to run. Since it’s all flatland here, they start out a mile or so from the bridge and the bridge is sort of takes the place of hills in other places. Up the first span, then down, then up the second span, then down and flat all the way to the finish.

We lose half by the second span. They can’t go on. The ones that make it to the top of the second span all finish the race 22 miles away in Folly Beach. Actually, they finish the race wherever they finally end up in the ocean. We usually lose one or two but that’s only sporting.

Once you get to the top of the second span you can’t stop. The momentum carries you all the way. Trying to stop would result in injuries. One thing you don’t want is taken to the University hospital. The interns there will treat a sprain by amputation. Nope, keep running, keep running.

I suggested they add some pizzazz to the race by coating the bridge with oil on the downslopes. Not only get long distance but speed. It was turned down to keep the redneck, pickup idiots away from Charleston. They’d make a mess of the run. I suppose. Still.......
