The Great Bridge Run
The Great Bridge run is over. The last runner made it to Folly Beach. His time was 5 days, 15 hours, 34 minutes and 19 seconds. The 93 year-old said he could have cut a whole day off his time if he hadn’t stopped to pee so much and hadn’t been sideswiped twice. We lost a bunch of runners when the drawbridge opened up as the runners were crossing, dumping dozens of the runners into the river. They were disqualified for “running off the course”. They’re real sticklers for rules here. The runners appealed saying, “We were dumped off the course”. The Great Bridge Run judges called that a “matter of semantics”. By the time the runners figured that word out it was too late to matter. Five runners suffered bites when a couple of pit bulls saw them running. They bit them because that’s what pit bulls do. The runners bit pulled ahead of the pack at that point. Next year, being bit by a pit bull is going to be an automatic disqualification.
One runner lost time when he grabbed a drink from one of the bystanders and found
out it was a drink. He went back- several times. He staggered across the finish line
at number 9788. He wouldn’t have finished at all if the beer hadn’t run out.
