Rin Tin Tin

Lt. Masters decided to send Rin Tin Tin running back to the fort for help. He was surrounded by all the Native-American warriors in the West. They seemed to have bad intentions toward Masters’ troop of cavalry. They were yelling about body piercing and haircuts. Masters was scared. Boy, he thought, if only there were some Marines in the area, things would be different. Marines were the meanest men alive, if they were men.

Dog running Seeing Rin Tin Tin running caused the Chief, Carry the Bush, to think what a nice addition to tonight’s stew pot that dog would make. He took a group of warriors and gave chase. As they went after the dog, Carry the Bush was unconcerned about the dog getting help for the white-eyed bluecoats. It’s not as if there were Marines at the fort. Then he thought about it and yelled out, “There may be some visiting Marines at the fort!”.

Some of his warriors turned North to Canada. They weren’t taking any chances.

Back at the ambush the remaining warriors, led by Close But Not Too Close, were continuing the attack on Masters’ troop. Close But Not Too Close had no intention of getting hurt here. He kept well back of the soldiers rifle range. That also meant his warriors were tossing dust up in front of the soldiers position. His arrows were falling well short. The only thing the spears got was a prairie dog, which would be a welcome addition to the stew pot tonight.

Rin Tin Tin was getting tired and the Native-Americans were catching up. Rin Tin Tin wasn’t in top shape. He mostly hung around the fort eating scraps. Army food, being what it is, there was always lots of it and Rin Tin Tin wasn’t particular. The other dogs thought of him as “old fat butt”. Rin Tin Tin decided to get rid of any excess weight so he spit the letter Masters had given him away.

The Canadian group was high-tailing at a gallop when their leader, Pie-eye, had a bad thought. He yelled out, “Mounties! Canada has Mounties. Those white-eyed redcoats are worse than the Marines! They’re worse than the Evil Spirit!”

That was enough to make him turn back to the ambush. The white-eyed bluecoats would make a welcome addition to tonight’s stew pot.

Rin Tin Tin did make it back to the fort. The cook saw him and offered him some scraps from the night’s stew pot. Rin Tin Tin ate them and took a nap.

Chief Carry the Bush watched this from a hill. Those scraps looked like what the Native-Americans ate everyday. Looked better than prarie dog and a lot better than white-eyed bluecoats.

He surrendered.

Close But Not Too Close got a chip in his eye when one of his warriors aimed too low.

He surrendered.

Pie-eye fell off his horse when he didn’t see the dry gulch. He sprained his back.

He surrendered.

Masters, seeing he had no real chance of holding out against all these Native-American warriors, and not believing the Marine would be landing an time soon, gave up hope.

He surrendered.

Rin Tin Tin took a nap.
