Not Guilty or Innocent?

Ian revealed to his manager how delighted he was that the owner didn’t seem concerned about his rap sheet in hiring him.

“Rap sheet? What rap sheet?”, the manager asked.

“Uh, mine. I don’t think someone else’s affects me”, Ian said.

“You have a rap sheet? What in the world did you do?”, the manager wanted to know.

“Didn’t do anything”, Ian responded.

“Then why do you have a rap sheet. Oh, of course, you were innocent. All criminals say that”, the namger said.

“As a matter of fact, I was”, Ian told the manager.

“Then why do you have a rap sheet?”.

“Uh, because I was arrested”.

“You just said you were innocent”.

“Yea, I was. That didn’t stop the cops from arresting me. I wasn’t guilty and the jury found me not guilty”, Ian explained.

“Then why do you have a rap sheet?”, the manager wanted to know.

“Because I was arrested! All it means is I was arrested, not that I was guilty. The jury decided I wasn’t”, Ian said.

“Yea, not guilty. That’s not the same as innocent, is it?”
