The federal government wants to ship used plutonium from Colorado to South Carolina. No particular reason, just because. The Governor of Colorado likes the idea; the Governor of South Carolina doesn't.

The South Carolina governor, Hodges, declared that he would stop the shipments even if he had to, "resort to force." What force? The National Guard would be federalized immediately leaving him with just the state police.

Let's see. The state police have 7mm automatics and shotguns. The Army has machine guns, tanks, and, if needed, nuclear weapons. Set one of those babies off and you'll see spent plutonium all over South Carolina.

The governor had a drill last weekend.

"Halt!", the state trooper said to the erzatz Army guy.

"What?", the erzatz guy asked.

"Ya'll ain'ta bringin'' thet there stuff inta ahr state."

"Oh, OK."

Here's what will really happen.

"Halt!", the state trooper says to the Army guy.

"What?", the Army guy replies.

"Ya'll ain'ta bringi' thet there stuff inta ahr state."

"Well, bub, I'll tell you what. What I'm going to do is run this tank right over you and your car. How's that sound?"
