The Ride Home
Sir Guil, Knight of the Round Table and Lord of the Manor at Wicham-on-Green heath-at-Stratford, was riding from Camelot when he glanced down and saw that he was riding a cow. He dismounted and called for his footman, Geoff. "Geoff, my good man, I seem to be riding a cow instead of my trusty steed". Geoff could see that. He couldn't speak since he was out of breath trying to keep up and he was trying to keep from laughing out loud. That would put his head on the chopping block for sure. "Yes, my Lord, it does seem that way", Geoff finally managed to say. "And yet, my good fellow, I know I left Camelot on my horse". "Yes, Sir Guil, you did. There's no doubt about that". "Can you explain how I came to be riding on a cow?" "Uh, maybe a witch put a spell on you and turned your horse into a cow".
"No, I think, perhaps, a spell was put on both of us to make us think I'm riding a cow. I believe the cow we see, or, rather, think we see, is still my trusty steed. That's what I think. Do you agree?" Of course not. Why would a witch put a spell on a footman? This knight riding a cow didn't affect the footman's life. No, that was a stupid idea. "Yes, my Lord, I think you have solved it." "Yes. I believe I have. No witch is going to outsmart me. Let us proceed". Sir Guil approached the Manor and noticed that the serfs, his serfs, were looking away from him. He'd have to speak to them about this. As he rode towards the Manor he heard the serfs making mooing sounds. He really would have to speak to them about this. Sir Guil was the first cowboy. |
