This is a real story except for the parts I made up. I heard it on the radio and it could be a lie right from the start.

Police Chief Rodney Harper was sitting in his Chief's car checking his gun. For some reason he aimed at the windshield and pulled the trigger. BAM!!! The gun fired! Shocked the daylights out of Old Rodney. How did that happen?! How does he explain it? He's the Chief!!!

A little later the dispatcher gets an urgent call from Rodney saying he was, "under fire by drug dealers." Everyone wanted to go to his aid. Everyone. The local cops, the Sheriff's Department, the State Police. and the FBI. Sixty-seven officers got to the scene.

Chief Harper's car was all shot up. Bullet holes everywhere. There was also one bullet hole in the Chief's leg. Seems, as it turns out, he shot himself by accident when one of the bullets he fired at his car ricocheted.

The local District Attorney said, "I don't even know where to begin charging him."

The Mayor said, "I think Chief Harper has to take an administrative leave until we get to the bottom of this."

The local police officers refused to comment. They just giggled.

Mrs. Harper said, " That's it. This is the final straw. First he burns the house down. Now, he's made me leery of going out in public. I'd go home to mama if she wasn't dead."
