Buying a New car Cecil and Doris decided to buy a new car. It was an impulse decision. Most of their decisions were impulse. “Cecil, I’m pregnant”. “Let’s get married!”, Cecil said impulsively. “Cecil, I have the new car and you drive that old junker. You deserve a new car”. Cecil’s car was tricky to get started. He had to turn the ignition, pound the steering wheel while singing “Wild Thing” by the Troggs. Unless it was raining. Then he had to sing “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”. They did too because of some small holes in the roof. They got to the dealer and went to look at the new cars. They got two, maybe three steps when a salesman got them. “Hi, folks! I’m Danny. Looking for a new car!?” Bright guy, this Danny. They were at a new car dealership. That’s the usual reason people come there. The idea that they were going to browse around was not going to fly. The salesman would guide them, guide them to what he wanted to sell them. They might want a minivan to transport the kids easier but he might need to sell a small sedan. What the salesman needed was the important thing. Danny thought about showing them the pea green car the former manager had brought in. The idiot was colorblind. No one would buy it at any price. Danny didn’t think they could give it away. He did think of showing it to Cecil and Doris. They didn’t look to be too bright but they might not be that stupid. “I like this pickup”, Cecil told Danny. Danny thought that was an okay choice. He could make money off this truck if he got it loaded. “Good choice, sir! Load this rascal up and you’ll have a great truck. Last you forever.” “Uh, I only need wheels to get back and firth to work. Don’t need a bunch of fancy stuff.” “Sir, buying a truck isn’t about need. Very few truck owners, not you, of course, but most folks driving trucks don’t need them, they want them. Load this baby up and people will drool when they see you.” That clinched it for Cecil. They walked towards the office when Doris said, “Look, honey, there’s a beautiful pea green sedan. I love that color.” Like taking candy from a baby. |
